Whirlpool dishwashers report faults as an FxEy code on the display, or as a blinking Clean light on models without a screen. Here are the common ones.
F2E2
Means: User-interface / control communication fault.
Fix: Cut power for 5 minutes to reset. If it repeats, the control board connection or board itself needs checking.
F3E1
Means: Temperature sensor (thermistor) fault.
Fix: Reset power. A persistent F3E1 means the thermistor/OWI sensor should be replaced.
F6E1
Means: No water detected entering the dishwasher.
Fix: Confirm the water supply valve under the sink is open and the inlet is not clogged; check the fill valve.
F7E1
Means: Heating fault — water isn't reaching temperature.
Fix: The heating element or its wiring is suspect; test the element for continuity.
F8E1
Means: Slow or no water fill.
Fix: Clean the inlet valve screen, check for low water pressure, and inspect the float for sticking.
F9E1
Means: Diverter/motor fault or long drain.
Fix: Clean the filter and drain path; verify the drain hose and air gap are clear.

How do I reset a Whirlpool dishwasher?
Turn it off at the breaker (or unplug) for about five minutes, then restore power. On button models you can also do a control reset by pressing any sequence of three buttons repeatedly — but a power cycle clears most codes.
Why won't my Whirlpool dishwasher fill with water (F6E1)?
